HOLY SMOKE AND SNAKES ALIVE!
"SUMURU"
Have a sneak peek at the script!
The cuts are made, the copies done, the last beer drunk and the impressive looking bra of the warrior amazons packed away - the movie is finished!

So now shall begin the promotion, for if there is one thing the world can never have enough of then it's giant snakes, women waving swords and Michael Shanks with a goatee!

Yeah well. The latter is arguable.

"SUMURU": SPACE SHIPS! BLASTERS! GIANT SNAKES! OH MY!

INTERVIEW WITH TORSTEN DEWI
co-author and development executive of "Sumuru"
The good news was heralded to the world just the other day: Sumuru is finally finished!

While some already doomsay the sci-fi/fantasy flick (very, very loosely related to Sax Rohmer's work) to be the campiest thing since Ed Wood decided to put on his pink angora sweater others (us, for example), are looking forward to what's hopefully going to be one and a half hours of popcorn entertainment in the best B-movie tradition. Which was the intent all the way - nobody wanted to bring Shakespeare on screen with "Sumuru", and if only half the enthusiasm and the fun of cast and crew transfers on the small screen, we are in for quite some fun.

"Sumuru" was shot in South Africa, so amazing landscapes are a given, and with German actress Alexandra Kamp we get a most beautiful female lead plus Michael Shanks (Stargate SG-1's Dr. Daniel Jackson) as the hero who tries to stand his ground on a planet ruled by women with men slaving away and only being brought forward for reasons of reproduction. Yoo-hoo! Popcorn won't be enough. We'll also need some alcoholic beverages, me thinks ...

Plus we can expect some pretty kewl SFX - and, as already mentioned, a giant snake.

It's nothing new: the worse the times, the lighter the movies. When your job is at risk and the world seems to be ruled by people who, under normal circumstances, would most probably fill up shelves at Safeway's, escapism is not only an option, but a necessity. Is it wrong? No. We need to get out of our daily misery once in a while, to recharge our mental batteries. That's why we are looking forward to productions like "Sumuru" or
"Pirates of the Caribbean", disregarding the critic's frown.

What can I say? Girls just wanna have fun ...!
"Ya sure, that's nice, but the Canucks are playing tonite on the other channel ..."
"Sumuru" will air on German television in October 2003 - if you want to make sure you'll see it on Sci-Fi channel as well, GO HERE!
