AUTHORS NOTES
(Title comes from an Emily Dickinson poem)

This is a long one, folks! I was obsessed. The type of cancer dealt with in this story is highly curable if found soon in the development. Just ask my friend Barry and my hero Lance Armstrong.

Thank you to my good friend and writing partner Sazz. I could feel your enthusiasm a continent away. What fun it is to write when I know youre on the other end. To Arren for your friendship and medical expertise. And spellen lessins. You da best! I would be remiss if I didnt mention Sarah, working tirelessly on her studies back in England. Im sorry, Sarah. I had to do it…

Final word-be aware of your body. Be aware of the bodies of those you love. Medicine can do wonders, but surveillance is our best defense.

EDITOR'S NOTES
I lost my mum to cancer. It was ugly. Very ugly. I think there's nothing worse but having to watch a loved one suffer and, eventually, die, and to know that there's no darn thing you can do about it. When I read this outstanding story by Pough, I remembered it all over, could even smell this particular hospital smell again, an odd mixture of desinfectant, pain, fear and guilt. It touched me to the core, and that's why "There's a Pain so Utter" is the recommendation of the month.
