Fan Fiction (FF) is an original story written based upon and using the characters from any given television show, movie, cartoon, book, anime, theatrical play and so on.

Real People Fiction (RPF) is an original story written using real people (actors, musicians and others), not fictional characters.

"Het" describes stories with romantic/sexual content involving a male and a female, stories exploring relationships between two people of the same gender are referred to as "slash". If the two people involved are female, you might find the term "fem-slash".

Most magazines and newspapers are full with RPF. Labelled as "news" or "gossip", the questionable stories in the tabloids are not that much different from those you can find on the internet.

But while fans can argue about this subject as long as they want, the only people who are really entitled to have a say at the end of the day are those who "star" in RPF's - the artists. Are they flattered? Upset? Amused? Angry? Puzzled?

We wanted to know. So we sent out requests to various artists all through the fandoms and arts. Delight or disgust - we didn't want "political correct" statements written by an agency, we wanted to know how these people really think and feel. It was a shot in the dark - we seriously didn't expect any answers, but we did indeed get some statements - and here they are, coming from all corners of the world, from men and women alike.

We'd like to thank all of those who have taken the time to answer.

PLEASE NOTE: these statements come from artists all over the galaxy, male and female, all ages, from all corners of the world of art. We did, however, NOT ask anybody involved with Stargate SG-1 or this issue. The Editors
"It's not the stories but the authors who think they are in their right to write them. I have no control and there is nothing I can do about it. Sure, I could sue or undertake legal steps but the day a website is closed down it will be up somewhere else."
"It's wicked! Flattering in a way, I mean MAN! They are writing about ME! OK, there is some sick violent and kinky stuff, but this aside I take it as a compliment. I don't think anybody actually believes that stuff to be true, anyway, going at it six times a night if that ain't fictional I don't know."
"My children have controlled access to the internet. We explained the dangers and also discussed the more unpleasant aspects of which "RPF" is one. Yes, I have seen such stories, and no, I'm not flattered. Stories about a fictional character do not concern me unless violence is involved, but then it's not the use of the character itself rather the attraction of violence which puts me at unease. My family feels much stronger about this than I do and naturally this affects me more than the actual stories we're talking about here."
"It's one of the most fucked-up things on the internet, and if I had a say, those sites would be closed down. All I can do is hope that none of these people ever breaks into my house and try to live out one of their fantasies."
"I express my admiration and gratitude towards my fans by doing the best job possible and being there for them. They got my respect, and I expect to be respected in return. Maybe we don't agree on the definition of "respect" when it comes to these stories."
"How do all these girls know so much about gay sex?!? I have no problem with this aspect while I'm definitely into girls* I wouldn't completely rule out I could fall for a guy at one point of my life, and I do like to play with this and enjoy when people run with it, but I don't understand why women write about gay sex. I would write about myself and a lot of pretty women not me and some big ugly hairy guy!
* Haha what have I written here!!"

"I rather have my fans writing silly stories than taking drugs. No, I don't like it, but as there's nothing I can do about it, I might as well just ignore it."
"I hate to admit this, but my mother reads these stories. She likes them steamy! When she finds a stinker she mails it through to me pointing out bad grammar and spelling mistakes. This kind of "fiction" doesn't bother me, but I know there are stories which deal with rape and/or violence.. I don't think these stories are written by fans but by people who have a serious problem and need help. This is nothing which should be available on the internet it's disturbing."
"If I had the time I would write "RPF" myself. I have an idea for a story where I print out a lengthy tale and make the author eat it, all 134 pages of it."
